WGC Anaesthetic Partnership information sheet:

WHO ARE ANAESTHETISTS?
Anaesthetists are highly specialised doctors who:
• look after the patient’s total well-being before, during and after surgery
• are experts in anaesthesia, care of sick patients in intensive care, resuscitation
and treatment of pain
• manage patients with different medical conditions
• give anaesthesia for all surgical procedures and in-patients of all ages

WGCAP (Woking Gas Company Anaesthetic partnership)
All WGCAP anaesthetists are NHS consultants at Ashford and St Peters Hospitals NHS Trust.
They are registered as specialists in anaesthesia with the General Medical Council and are fully
appraised and up to date. WGCAP anaesthetists work together in a partnership to ensure patients
receive the best possible anaesthetic care 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

Payments for Anaesthetic Services
The anaesthetic fees are linked to a scale of benefits published by Western Provident Association
(WPA) currently available to be viewed on their website; www.wpa.org.uk

Our contract is with you (the Patient) regardless of whether you are insured or not.

There may be a shortfall between the anaesthetic fee and the benefit paid by your insurance company. This shortfall will be your responsibility to settle.

Shortfalls arise because:
• Individual insurance companies
(a) Provide different levels of cover
(b) Reimburse the anaesthetist different amounts for the same procedure
• A minority of insurers will not reimburse for certain services which the WGCAP provides to ensure
high quality of care for our patients.

Prior to surgery, it is very important that you check your level of cover (benefit) with your insurer.

A quote for your anaesthetic fee can be obtained by calling the WGCAP secretary, Sue Sellick,
on 01483 772085.

You will need the surgery operation codes as issued by your surgeon which you can obtain from his/her secretary. A written estimate can be sent to you if requested.

All self-pay and fixed cost patients will receive an estimate from the hospital concerned.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS ABOUT YOUR ANAESTHETIC
PLEASE CALL THE WGCAP OFFICE ON 01483 772085, MONDAY – FRIDAY 9AM-5PM.

Please note that due to the number of theatres and anaesthetists and due to emergency surgery,
we cannot guarantee the name of your anaesthetist until the day of surgery.
